The Cassanga Challenge

The Cassanga Challenge is a multi sport adventure race in the Pokhara Valley and Upper Seti River region of Nepal, to honour the memory of our beloved sister and fellow river guide Cassandra Elise Emary who died kayaking on the Upper Seti River on the 29th November 2018.

‘‘ Known as Cass in the Himalayas and Sanga in her origin land down under, Cassandra chose Nepal as her home and loved nothing more than to paddle the rivers around Pokhara, in the shadows of the Himalayas."

In Sanskrit - Sangha ( संग ) translates as "sacred community" - the perfect connection to bridge the gap between her two worlds. Cassandra transcended boundaries with the common love of exploring the outdoors. She was passionate about unity & genuine inclusion of female guides in the outdoor adventure community. Cassanga unifies brothers & sisters of all backgrounds.

Cassandra was an incredibly special young woman who left a huge impact on this community. She loved to paddle, run & cycle around the beautiful Pokhara valley, and she was passionate about helping Nepalese women to explore new challenges and achieve new goals. We are excited to share these experiences and inspire others.

Cassanga wanted to make a difference!

Our goal is to celebrate Cass’s life with challenge, inspiration & fun! We hope to acknowledge her strong values and to bring awareness to the challenges female guides face in the adventure tourism field in Nepal and around the world.

Proceeds earned by the Cassanga Challenge will be used towards female empowerment, outdoor pursuits initiatives & guide training programs in Nepal in coordination with NARA Pokhara and in consultation with the Cassanga Fund in Australia.

Through this memorial event we also honor the lives of fellow lost paddlers and celebrate the river together as an adventure community with the utmost respect to Mother Nature.
